Noise and nuisance
The warmer weather is back, and for those of you with a garden, the weekend is a great time for gardening and DIY.
But can you mow your lawn on Sundays and public holidays? What does the law say? We'll tell you.
Work involving the use of noisy equipment (lawnmowers, tillers, chain saws, drills, etc.) is subject to legally defined working hours.
The Préfet has set timetables that apply to all communes in the Hérault, private individuals can carry out their work:
- working days from 8.30am to 12pm and from 2.30pm to 7.30pm;
- Saturdays from 9am to 12pm and from 3pm to 7pm;
- Sundays and public holidays from 10am to 12pm.
These rules apply to all noisy tools (hedge trimmers, chain saws, tillers, drills, etc.).

Public and private worksites are not subject to the same timetables as private individuals. The opening times are : Monday to Saturday from 7am to 8pm maximum.
