Introducing Villeneuve-lès-Béziers
A Mediterranean village with a rich historical past and an ideal location
Built in 778 under the name of "Villanova", Villeneuve-lès-Béziers, located in the south of the Hérault department in the Occitanie region, is a commune with a remarkable historical and natural heritage. It had a population of 4,283 in 2022, known as Villeneuvois et Villeneuvoises, and is part of the Béziers conurbation.
Martyred by Simon de Montfort in the 13th century, it was for a time known as "La Crémade". Today, its historic centre still bears many traces of its past:
- The Romanesque church of Sainte-Étiennelisted in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.
- The castle tower and the remains of medieval ramparts.
- The old Town Hallbuilt in 1780, now houses an exhibition hall.
A natural environment and a privileged location
Crossed by the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Villeneuve-lès-Béziers offers an enchanting setting where heritage and nature meet. The commune also includes a Natura 2000 site and two natural areas of ecological interest.
Ideally located, it is 10 minutes from the beaches, close to the A9 and A75 motorways, Béziers - Cap d'Agde airport and the TGV train station. Close to Béziers, it is also at the crossroads between Spain, the Camargue and the Cévennes.
