The Church of Saint-Etienne

The church at Villeneuve-Lès-Béziers, dedicated to Saint Etienne, is Romanesque in design.

It was built in the 10th century. The earliest known reference to the church dates from 1160.

Over the centuries, and during the Wars of Religion (16th and 17th centuries), it suffered destruction, fire and looting, as did the entire village of Crémade.

The nave was rebuilt in the second half of the 17th century at the behest of the Consuls of Villeneuve, who were granted a special tax allowance by the Parliament of Toulouse.

The church at Villeneuve became part of the town's heritage in 1659 and is listed as a historic monument. supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 11 October 1930.
