The gabare, the floating tourist office

This Gabarre is the only floating tourist office on the Canal des Deux Mers between Bordeaux and Sète.
The Gabarre Pescaluna, also known as the moon fisher, is moored at the Villeneuve-lès-Béziers water sports centre. She welcomes theBéziers Méditerranée Tourist Office .
Come and discover this authentic wooden Gabarre originally built to transport visitors and goods.
Pierre-Paul Riquet revolutionised the way goods were transported between sea and land. For 250 years, horses pulled boats like this one. At the time, transporting goods by road was uncertain and expensive. On the road, a horse could pull twice its own weight, whereas when towing a barge it could pull one hundred and twenty times its own weight.
You'll have the pleasure of discovering this interior made entirely of wood - a noble, natural material that's warm, friendly, soft to the touch and pleasant to breathe. It's seductive, creates intimacy and gives our Pescaluna a friendly, reassuring feel!
Open Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm and 2pm to 6pm. In July and August every day at the same times.
There's a shop selling books, Occitan products, wines and local produce.
