Night-time switching off of public lighting.

🌙 🌃 Night-time switching off of public lighting. It's time to activate the night mode.

📅 Public information meeting on Wednesday 29 June 2022 at 7pm at the Espace des Libertés Gérard-Saumade.

👉Villeneuve-lès-Béziers is committed to switching off its public lighting. The aim is to reduce energy consumption and light pollution, in line with the town's strong environmental and ecological commitment.

👉Street lighting is also often seen as a key factor in safety. Many projects come up against resistance based on the fear of generating more insecurity or a feeling of being downgraded, which must be taken into account.
However, local authorities that have introduced this measure have not noticed any impact on the number of burglaries and acts of vandalism, most of which take place in broad daylight.
🚦 In terms of road safety, in an area with little or no lighting, motorists tend to decelerate or even brake in order to pay more attention to the state of the road and their trajectory.
👉This experiment, which will begin at the start of the new school year in September 2022, is also part of the drive to control public spending by reducing energy consumption.
