Lost property

Recognising a lost object

Any object found on the public highway, in a public place or in a place open to the public within the municipality must be reported to the municipal services. The length of time that found objects are kept by the City depends on their nature. Anyone who finds an item must report it and hand it in. Similarly, anyone who has lost an item must report it to the City.

Procedures

  • To declare a found object : Simply go to the municipal police station where the declaration is made. A detailed inventory of the item(s) is made and then registered. Valuables, cash, bulky items and two-wheelers are stored in a secure area. If the person who found the object wishes to keep it until it is claimed by its owner, the municipal services will make a note of this and the person will issue a receipt.
  • To report a lost object : contact the municipal police.
  • To recover a lost item: when the identity of the owner of the item is known, the Town Hall will quickly notify the owner. The owner must then go to the Town Hall to collect the item; he or she must prove his or her identity and ownership of the item.
  • Animals : If you have a stray animal on the public highway, you should first contact the municipal police.
